Many Casualties Reported From Clashes
Between Whites and lllacks.
Washington, July 121.? At midnight
tonight the kimwii casualty list in Wash
ington's race war totalled ten includ
ing two d?>Ht)iH and two men probably
dying. while unconfinneri police reports
I>1 the number at a much greater
figure. < >f the ?lon?l, one wns a city
detective shot through the breast by
a negro woman, who was tiring indis
criminately from the upper story of her
house.
The 'fighting at midnight had resolved
largely to fighting between Minall grou|>s
and in one of these encounter)* a marine

A crowd of more than 800 persons
congregated at l'eace Monument, at the
foot of the Oapitol, shortly after the
House adjourned aud mwubera wero
leaving for their homes. A negro had
started an argument with white soldiers,
and bystanders rushed to take part,
street cars were halted and traffic was
blocked for several hundred yards in
each direction. Before anything serious
developed, however, four automobiles
tilled with police , reserves made through
the crowd and averted trouble. Later
in the evening Patrolman Burnt, crack
shot of the Washington police force, was
struck by a bullet fired by a negro in
tli** northwest section of the city. The
bullet struck the patrolman's arm and
lie was unable to return the fire. The
negro escaped, outrunning a crowd of
civilians.

Heavy Rains Damage.
There was a very heavy rain in the

a heavy wind crops were damaged to 1
