total amount raised was $1,035 In ad
dition to this amount, Mr. jfi. W. Itoy

instructed to got up the moats for 'the
occasion. Like raising the fund, bin
time wan limited, and he had to *et
the meats from nearby neighbors. Mr.
1 toy kin tfrllg uh that had he been giveu
more time he could have secured moat
enough to have fed twenty thousand peo
ple, HO readily did the farmers respond.
He did not have to piiy for any of the
meats und said, the people were only
too willing to aiVe for the occasion. ? Mr.
Boykin went to Columbia and secured
the services of Jaines Ornley, recognised
as the barbecue expert orf the state. and
with three helpers he had an immense
spread for the soldiers and their friends
