wedding Saturday evening, the second
within the month; when Miss Harriett
Cash Irby, the youngest daughter of Mr. j
and Mrs.-. I. L. Irby, became the bride
of Karl Pledger Emanuel of Borden.
The Ceremony took place, on the broad
piazza which was* hung with Japanese
lanterns and decorated with garlands
of smilax and banks of fernh and palms.
Thf bridal party entered to the strains
of Mendelsshon's wedding march, played
by a Columbia orchestra. The maid of
honor was Miss Catherine Ashton. of
Easton, Pa., and Mrs. Charles 10 vans
Boineau, sister Of the bride, waa^dame
of honor. ' The tiny flower giri^Miss
Cornelia Jackson, scattering rose petals
along .the path, preceded the dainty
bride who entered on the arm of hei
father. She was charming in a gown of
lustrous satin fashioned with fold uj>on
fold of airy tulle and court train of
satin. Her veil wan draped "With orange
blossoms and her shower bouquet was
of bride roses and "valley .lilies. The
bridegroom was attended by Henry M.
Sanders of Hagood as best man. The

-Although not unexpected our commu
nity was saddened on Tuesday to bear
of the death of Mrs. Elisabeth W. Cor
bctt, which bad occurred that morning at
the home of her daughter. Mrs. W. Ix. De
Pass. Mrs. Corbett was before her mar
riage, Miss Witherspoon, a member of
the w?>ll known South Carolina family of
that name. In early life-^he married the
Rev. Mr/Corbett, a well known Pretjby
terinn minister, and for years shared his
labors aqg bis popularity. After his
death the came to make her home in
Camden where her son, Dr. John W. Cor
bett had located.
"A Mother in Israel," she was. A wo
man of tine intellect and noble character,
her work and influence will live after her,
and long remain a sunny memory to those
who held b? dear.
? The remains were carried to Dennetts
ville and laid beside the husband who
had gube before.
Mrs. Corbett leavea several children,
atnofig them Miaa Agnes Corbett, * suc
cessful teacher in the high school of this
city, Mrs. W. L. DePaaa and Dr. John
W. Cofbett, one of Camden 'a most suc
cessful and best loved physicians, to
whom our sympathies go out, ?

a court-iniirtlal on the charge of being
absent without leave, and' sentenced to
serve ten years at the I'nlted State* dis
ciplinary barracks, Fort Leavenworth,
Kan. L^evine was charged with being
absent without leave of ubsence from
August 12 to February '20, last. The
defendant pleaded not guilty to the
charge of desertion and said that when
arrested, he was attempting to obtain
money to pa?- hlr- way bade to Camp
NVadsworth.

?The end was not unlooked for though it
came suddenly, because for some few
years past Maor Coker had not taken
active detailed management of his largo
ami. varied business interests.
Major Coker was in Ills .usual health
until Thursday last when attacks 6f
unconsciousness came again, lie did
not rally from this condition which was
not at first more alarming than pre
vious ones. Monday night he grew worse
and it was evident that the end was
approaching. lie lapsed into u semi
conscious condition, growing weaker un
til the end came at 4 o'clock Tuesday.
Death came with TfUiet peace, all of his
family being with him except his daugh
ter, Mrs. 11. P. Watson, of Greenville,
ami one sou, I)r. W. G.; Ooker, of Chapel
liill. His surviving children fere J. L.
Coker; Jr., I). It. Ooker, W. C. Coker,
O. W. Coker and Mrs. II. F. Watson.
The funeral will be held at Hartsville
Baptist church Wednesday at 6 p. m.
Major Coker died in his #2ud year
aud this long span of honored years
made a life record which can only come
to spirits of strong purpose and of the
purest mould. In peace and in war be
served his country as a brave aud
useful son, and in his life has left the
rich heritage of noble ideals, a contribu
tion to his state and his country.

tioned in -the casualty list among the
severely wounded under date of June
22nd. Lucas is from the Flat Creek
section o/ " Lancaster county, and has
been with the American expeditionary
