PLAN STARTED IN NEW YORK.

in 10,000,000 Homes.
The women of Amerlcu, w lu> are
anxious to do their gicat pun In the
winning of the vvur, are now, ns a
whole, familiar with the most impor
tant aspects of fotnl conservation. The
Home Card, both in 1 1 n original form
and in the revised edition for I'JIN,
which provides for two w heat less days,
one incatlexs day a m i-t-k, In addition
to a wheat I ess meal every da.\, has been
placed hy tin* Food Administration aft
er a vigorous campaign in 10,(hhi,(KH)
American lioineH. An intelligent and
conscien t ions observance of tin; Home
Card's requirements is all tin- Food
Administration asks of the housewives
of the count ry.
The Food Administration has had a
great many requests, however, particu
larly from the Imm \s of t he well-to-do,
thnt It should Issue a worked out plan
for a voluntary system ? ? f rationing.
This desire for a voluntary ration
springs from two causes ? first, be
cause it is far simpler for the house
wife to save food when she has a con
crete working plan by which to pro
ceed, and, Becond, because the loyal
women of America desire, unselfishly,
to put themselves on the same basis |
as the women of the Allied countries, i
The ration proposed by thfc Food Ad
ministration is almost the same as
that adopted In England for voluntary
observance. All over the United King
dom, in hundreds of houses there
hangs in the front window a card with 1
the stirring pledge, "IN HONOR
' BOUND WE ADOPT THE NATION
AL SCALE OF VOLUNTARY RA
TIONS." i
The ration recommended by the
Food Administration, and adopted first
