of foodstuffs grown, conservative es
timates placing the Increase at from
20 to BO per cent. The indications
.are that,South Carolina will not .send
ho much money to other sections for
foodstuffs next, fall and, winter as

. The trucking section# of the State
have been unusually/prosperous this
year Tens t?f tlhousands of dollars
were cleared on the Irish potato crop
alone. .
The I*ee Dee is rejoicing over an
excellent tobacco crop, which Is sell*
lug at high prices audi providing ready
money for that Section at a time wheft
it is needed to finance other croi>s.
The live stock industry Is on the
increase in some sections of the State

dation that the sale of meat be pro
hibited throughout the United .States
on Tuesday and Fridays was adopted
and forwarded to - Herl?ert Hoover,
food administrator by the United Mas
ter Butchers of America, meeting in
the the annual convention here today.
The recommendation also suggested
that the government make ^nVlnvestl
gation of the prices of fresh and froz
en -fish. Speakers asserted that the
prices charged for fish in the retail
markets were unreasonably high.

ments attached hereto, the Sheriff col
lected the sum of $8,492.03 on account
of 1914 taxes and $4,420.45 on account
of 1918 taxes, making a total of $10,
918.48, for the two years combined, none
of which had been turned over to the
Treasurer up to the time of 'this audit.
(So far as can be determined by these
records.)
Shortage in Cash?It is shown.ahove
thattjiere were cash collection* aggre
gating $1^918.48 to be accounted for;
in another section, 1 afao show that the
total cash (visable) amounts to only
$2,149.11. It is, therefore, seen that a
shortage of $8,789.37 exists In the c^P*
Sheriff's cash account at the time of
