When hatched the.v are little worms
with <i\ legs and, barring the wings,
the.v bear a strong resemblance to
rhetr splendid mother. The rudiment.-!
of their future wings can be seen,
neatly folded up under the skin, while
the eolors and tints that will be theirs
later on ran be faintly discerned thru
their trail vparenT bodies. While in
this reiitile stHte they crawl and swim
slowly from place to place, and subsist
upon the soft mud and the glutinous
slime of the bottom. The.v even now
