Mr. S. L. Moore, a prominent far
mer and business man of Waterloo,
Is at the point of death In the Lau
rens Hospital as the result of an at
tack by a Jersey bull Friday after
noon. Mr. Moore's leg was broken in
three places and he was otherwise
badly Injured.

fact that foodstuffs have recently con
tinued their steady and rapid advance

stuffs to their customers and dry goods
merchants are beginning to rejwrt a
severe diminution in the volume of
their trade.
"I^arge government war orders are
tcm|H>rarily supporting the cotton and
cotton goods market, but the reduct
ion of tin* dry goods trade must even
tually have its effect.. We are eon
frothed also with the serious proba
bility that a continuation of the rapid
sinking of vessels by (Jerman subma
rines will leave no ocean tonnagu
available for carrying cotton this fall,
as every available ship may and prob
ably will be needed to carry foodstuffs
and munitions to the allies.
"No one can accurately predict :he
future but we suggest that the all
cotton farmer consider the situation
In which he will find himself this
fall should foodstuffs remain at fam
ine prices and cotton decline serious
ly from present prices.
"It Is becoming more nnd more evi
dent that the production and conser
vation of foodstuffs and their trans
portation to Kngland and France are
the problems upon whose solution the
war will principally depend.
"The men, women and children of
this nation who are aiding In these
matters are renderlug just the ser
vice which Is required of them In this
emergency.

Robbers Kaid Bank.
Pittsburgh, May 14.?Police tonight
had recovered practically all of the
$10,000 taken from the First Nation
al Punk of Castlehannon, a suburb, to
day by four bandits who entered the
bank, ?hot to death the cashier and
assistant cashier of the bank, hound
and gagged a patron of the bank, and
In attempting to escajte wounded hvo
persons.
One of the bandits, John C\ Hetch,
was killed and another, Samuel llertx,
was probably fatally wounded by
shots from a i>osse of townsj>eople.
A third bandit, Nick Yccle was cap
tured and badly beaten by a mob
that attempted to take him from the
posse. Efforts to capture the fourth
bandit were unsuccessful. All of the
robtoers, according to the police, live
In Pittsburgh and are young men.

The friends of Mrs. Jim Irby who

operation in the Columbia hospital will

Carlstrom reached the zenith of his
fame when he flew from Chicago to
New York for the New York Times
several months ago. Previous to that

to New York without a stop, setting
record for cross-country flying.
