Whether tin* paper manufacturers
are squeezing the public or whether j
with the foreign demand the supply
is being exhausted tin* cure of the con
dition is curtailing the consumption.
The price of paper of every grade is
beyond reason. In some instances the
increase within a year lias been from ,
.~u to 100 jft*r cent. Many iu?w\spai>ers
will lie compelled to increase their sell
ing price or go out of business. The
same is true of various periodicals.
The one cent .newspaper is becoming a
two cent newspaper in numerous in
stances. That is 'good but it will be
of no lasting benellt unless papers are
decreased in size and unless those mon
strous Sunday editions are brought
within reasonable bounds and unless
} sotne attention is given to the colossal
; waste of which we are guilty in cast
ing away or burning countless thotis
