ter and washing soda.
Janitors : See that no rubbish or
garbage Is exposed to flies and that
premises are kept scrupulously clean.
CITY HEALTH NOTICE.
Noticc is hereby given -to all parties
residing In the City of Camden to have
their premises thoroughly cleaned.
Stables, pens and back yards liiued,
and al^ places where dirt accumulates
must be thoroughly cleaned. This is
very important to avoid disease and to
prevent Its spread. The health officer
Is instructed to inspect every premise
In the city and to report conditions of

Charlotte Daily Makes Summary of
Damage By Floods.

Additional bodies found Wednesday
In scattered districts hi/ North Caro
lina brought the number of deaths from
the recent floods up to approximately
50. with six persons missing and be
lieved to he dead. The estimate of 50
dead includes the nine Belmont bridge
Victims still unaccounted for.
Seven of the flood victims were
drowned at Honda, near Wllkesl>oro,
in the overflow of the Yadkin river.
They were In two houses cast ashore
at Honda after having been washed
fifteen miles from the i?otnt where
they originally stood.
The other deahts oecurred In the
Bat Cave and Chimney Bock section
of Ashevllle, where the Broad river
raged through a narrow valley Sun
day, carying everything before it: near
Belmont on the Catawba river; at
Ashevllle and Blltmore, and scattered
fatalities elsewhere.
News coming In slowly from the
Yadkly river valley, as well as from
other parts of Western North Carolina
known to have suffered from the hljyrh
waters, and It is feared the numl>er
of deaths will be materially increased
when full reports can lie had.
The crest of the flood lias l>ecn pass
ed In South CaroJ-ina. North (Carolina,
Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia,
leaving in Its wake demoralized rail
road and wire communications, and ar
mies of repair men are working In an
effort to restore normal conditions.

A motion was made and carried that

THE HOUSE A BIRD BUILDS.
A Hammirhud'i Neat Has Three
Roomh, All Big and Strong.
No single room apartment satisfies
the hammerhead. When he builds his
nest he divides it into three rooms ? a
reception hall, a drawing room and a
bedroom.
The entire structure is built of
sticks, dome shape, and sometimes six
feet In diameter. The bird is so good
a carpenter and engineer that the nest
will bear the weight of a man.
In appearance tbe bird looks always
as if he needed a haircut. His long
locks, hanging down his neck, have
given him his name, hammerhead.
__The entrance to this domelike .nest is
small and on the concealed side. Tbe
first room is the halt where the ham
merhead lives when he fears attack.
Behind this is tbe drawing room, the
home of the young birds when they
outgrow the bedroom. r r
The bedroom is higher, than the rest
and safe from floods. Hero the female
bird deposits eggs on a nest of leavee,
and both parents take turns at keep
ing them warm.
The hammerhead lives in Africa,
usually builds his nest near a stream
and eats flsh, frogs, lizards and small
