Mr. L. M . Ard. familiarly known
to his friends and acquaintances as
"Yank," died at his home In Hartsville
last week, after a few days Illness
with pneumonia. Mr. Ard was em
ployed as an engineer on the Seaboard
road, and was an engineer on the
tram engine of Mr. J. S. Tlsdale at
laicknow several years ago. Ho left
a wife and throe children.

The many friends of Rev. J. C.
Crouch here were grieved to hear of
his death, which occurred in Charles
ton Saturday last. The funeral ser
vices were held on Monday at Ham
burg.

Mrs. Jerusha Brown, which occurred

The relatives and friends of Mrs.
Ixni Watkins, who lives just below
Tiller's Ferry in Darlington county,
will give her a birthday dinner on
Thursday, Feb. 3rd at her residence.

The Majestic (Orchestra Returns.

have been furnishing such sweet mu
sic at the Majestic Theatre wince Its
opening. returned last Friday from a.
short stay at New Orleans ami other
gulf towns. While the Majestic; has
lieen furnishing its same high el a -is
pictures ? the very best that could he
had ? the fmtrons have noted the ab
sence of the orchestra, and now that
the members have returned it will be
pleasing news to the many patrons of
thin jKipular playhouse. These musi
cians evidently like Camden and Cam
den people for Mr. Gray said to a
Chronicle man upon his return "Well,
we have returned and are Indeed glad
to get back." That the excellent music
they furnish is fully appreciated is
shown by the large attendance at this
theatre.

Mr. ?)ames Bowers Dead.
Mr. James Bowers, a citizen of north
ern Kershaw, died at his home in that
section on FrJ^tyy night. December 17.
after an illness of- pneumonia, and was
burled the following day In the fami
ly burying ground near Ills home. Mr.
Bowers was about 50 years of age and
is survived by his wife and seven chil
dren. We learn frym parties' from
that community that Mrs. Bowers ami
three of the children are also confined
to their beds from the same malady,
and that an epldcmic of gripi*> and
pneumonia prevails in that section.

His Body Brought Here.
The rematns of Mr. )tnff F. filack
mon, who died December 20th, at Ham
let, C.. were brought to Camden
last Friday for Interment in the Quaker
cemetery. Mr. Blacknion was a Sea
board railway conductor, and had been
111 only a few days from pueumptita,
and his death was quite unexpected.
