: Just at the present time, this last

points and small points all contrive to
shoiv the gorgeous linings of the skirts.
One of the Misses Post, who is a de
votee of aviation, was seen recently at
a meet in a dress of this type. Cut ex
tremely short, the skirt showed four
shallow points. This was white linen,
which matched a Jumper of the same
material, and was worn over a guimpe
of transparent white Swiss. The trim
ming was, of course, cretonne, for no
dress is quite complete without it this
summer, but this time it had forsak
en its gay colors and flowers in favor
of a black-and-white check. To say
that bands and facings of this material
on the white were startling is putting
it mildly, but, then, the points of the
skirt were striking enough to carry off
?a contrast of this kind.
This Is a season when every dress
has a hat of Its own, matching either
the material or the trimming ; Miss
Post's hat followed the rule, being made
of the black-and-white cretonne. In
its straight-brimmed jailor style, low
of crown and tilted fearlessly on the
head, it had a swagger style In keep
ing with the sport of airmen.
What hats may do, stockings may do
likewise. Even if they were not cre
tonne, they had its' checks and matched
the facing, the trimming and the hat,
giving a certain completeness to the
costume, which left ntfthing^to be de
sired in style.
Beauty Queen Contest.
In the contest conducted by- The
Chronicle for Kershaw county's rep
resentative in the state-wide congest
for Iieauty Queen Harvest Jubilee,
Columbia, Oct 25-30, the popular vote
was counted at 0 o'clock Monday af
ternoon by Messrs. Robin Zemp, M.
Bam eh and E. N. McDowell. MIsh
Jean Mndsay was declared the win
ner, Miss Minnie Taylor came second,
and Miss Rhetta Wilson third. ?*

of Ehrenstein the King of Jugendhelt
finds to his surprise and joy, the wo
man of his choice. ?
Miss (Mark assumes the role of the
little Princess whose lot it is to tend
the geese of peasant foster-parents.
Monroe Salisbury appears as the frank
democratic and warm hearted king.

The Road Hog Got HIh.
A road hog living near Cravat, aoutli

Salem had bwn to Mt, Vernon and
were coming back by way of Centriilla.
When near Cravat, they came up be
hind a buggy. The road waa narrow

which the driver refused to do,- When
they came to a place they could get by

He kept thia up for aome time till a
place came where he could not head

the driver of the buggy brought along
to within a mile of Centralta, when he
