One of the largest and most beauti
ful juvenile parties* of the season was
given at the- attractive home of Mr. and
Mrs. M. H. Heyman on Monday after
noon in honor of the fifth birthday of
tnelr little0 daughter, Carolyne. And
as she is a Fourth-of-July girl, every
thing was in keeping .with the Na
tional holiday.' The chaining little |
hostess received in a dress fashioned
from the folds of the ^'star spangled
banner," andf since the flag came from
the hands of the heroine Betsy Ross, J
.and has never l>een more captivating.
Old time games were played 011 the I
lawn, and then a line led by the hos
tess with John Corbett Richardson,
marched into the dining room that had

land. The room was garlanded in rib
bons ef red, whjte and blue, and the]

dJe&gleamed, had a starry runner down

Baskets of candy, ribbon-tied. in red,

Our community was greatly shocked
again on Thursday morning to learn;]
that J. prank Gardner, Jr., had died
early that morhlng after only three
days illness. He passed through a
very serious and protracted sj>ell "of
sickness earlier In the year and was
just about recovering from the effects
of it. Mr. Gardner was the Junior
member of The Hlackmon ?o., and has
been in engaged In business here for a
number of years. He was a good and
valuable citizen, was friendly with all
and had a host of friends. Mr. Gard
ner was 30 years of age ami left a
widow and two small children surviv
ing. The funeral services were con
ducted from the home by Rev. S. D.
Bailey and the burial ceremonies of
the Maponlc order were conducted at
the grave by Abney lodge and a num
ber of vbdtlng masons ; a detachment
