ADVICE ON FEEDING
COTTONSEED MEAL
Department Bulletin Telia How

Feeding Beef Cattle.
Clemson College. May 11.- Hie pro
per feeding of cottonsefd meal is out
of the most important problems l??fiiH?
ngrlcultuhil workers in the South and
the solution o#? the problem in nil its
branches will l,e of immense value, to
the fanners of the cotton l>elt. Farm

of the publication by the Department
of Agriculture at Washington' of a bul
letin oh ^Cottonseed Mesi ToT Feeding
Beef Cattle." It la Farmers' Bulletin
<><>;> and may be htod upon application
to tlie Department of Agriculture.
Among the conclusions drawn in his
summary by the author of the bulle
tin, are the following of special inter
est to Southern farmers:
1)0 110t young calves Keovlt
on cottonseed meal. 1
j " " cottonseed meal does * not cost
ov^r $34 a ton It can probably be used
to advantage In wintering the breeding
I h^rd. - ?
By feeding a ration of 2 pounds of
cottonseed cake wifh corn silage, or
2 1-2 pounds of cottonseed e?ke -\yith
coarse roughage such as oat straw,
corn stover, etc., mature cattle can be
wintered very <H>onomica11y.
One i >< 'in >< l of cottonseed meal is
usually worth as much as 2 pounds of
corn for feeding cattR\
Cottonseed ineal stimulates the aj*
petlte ?f fattening animals and will
cause them to consume moire feed aiujl
likewise to make greater .Aains.
Uwy feeding? of? eottonseed- -men 1
should l?e Vdiscon tinned after 100 to
120 days where dry roughage is fe<i
and after 150 days where succulent
feeds are Us<yl.
Cottonseed cake can be used verv
profitably as a supplemental fee<l for
fattening cattle on pasture.'
(Fanners who are "breedlg lavf cat

Agriculture and ask for Bulletin 055.
