MAGIC OF A MAGNET.

The magnetic pull on die hall was
irreater than the gravitational pull on i
the man.
This remarkable experiment shows
file enormous power of attraction ex
orted by the lifting thnguets that are
used In iron and steel works to carry
about iron material of every descrip
tion. The magnets enable the opera
tor to seize Iron materia) at any point
desired and convey it to any other
point within the range of the cranio.
Incidentally the use of lifting magncxs
has greatly diminished the risk of acoi ".
dents in the moving of heavy masses
of iron. ' r "

Subtle Advertis!n^,"%>^!*.>M|M
A successful ho^el manager pointed
to the advertisement of a hotel at a
fashionable resort. The advertisement
read:
"Special rates to single men."
"The proprietor of that hotel," said
he, "deserves to succeed. He lays in
his advertisement a subtle trap for
mothers with marriageable daughters.
They read the advertisement and they
conclude that, given lower rates at this
hotel, single men will be ^plentiful.
| They therefore decide that there is the
place undoubtedly to take their daugh
ters."
Then, laughing, he concluded:
"These mothers quite correctly be

chances of matrimony are concerned
