Very enjoyable was the meeting
of the Wednesday morning Bridge
Club this week with Mrs. L. T. Mills
as hostess. The rooms were abloom
with summer flowers, with contrast
ing green that made them cool and
effective. In addition to the regu
lar club members, the guests were
Mrs. Taylor, who Is visiting Mrs. W.
(). Hay, and Misses Yates and Cal
houn, After the games, the hostestf
served fruit, followed by a salad
course.
There Was No Fire.
Some little excitement was caus
ed Tuesday afternoon when an alarm
was sent in from the box near the
court house and the fire depart
ment turned out promptly. There
was no fire and It turned out that
it was only the Chief testing the
fire hose.
One old wag remarked that prob
ably the boys were beginning ear
ly, practising for the tuornament at
Florence next summer, lie uncou
clously offered a good suggestion.

years ago, but for some reason In
terest died out and Ciamden quit at

Mr. T. A. Spradley was in Cam?
den yesterday and had with him the
hide of a huge rattlesnake he had
killed Wednesday near the pond
on Mr. Jim West's place a few
miles northeast ofC amden. The
monster measured 4 feet and 1 0
inches and had nine rattlse,. but ;
several were broken off when the !
snake was killed.

Stood Kxamliiations.
Five young men were present on
last Friday and stood the examina
tion for Clemson Collee. They
were Messrs. Cavette Jordan, of
Kershaw; Abe Richards and Flynn
Johnson, of Liberty Hill, Wm. H.~
Stokes and Tillman Thompson, of
near Bethune. These applicants
were for the four years course.
There were no applicants for the
one year course.
Mr. 'William Stoney stood the ex
amination for the University of
South Carolina, and Mr. Chas. W.
Birchmore, Jr., for the College of
Charleston. There were no vacant
scholarships in either of these lat
ter Institutions. \

Girls.
Prof. Jas . L. Carberry and Miss
Edith Parrott, the State Agent of
Girls' Clubs, will be in Camden on
July 28th. All girly who enrolled
themselves in the club and their
mothers, of West Wateree, and of
those living nearer Camden are in
vited to be present. Mr .Carberry
and Miss Parrott will give impor
tant talks, and after lunch Mr. Car
berry will give a canning demonstra
tion. Immediately after the demon
stration there will be a short busi
ness meeting of the girls. County
officers will be elected. Unless fur
ther notice is given the meeting
will take place at the Grammar
School building.
The Bftmo program will be carried
out at Kershaw on July 29th. So
all club girls and thMr mothers, who
live nearer Kershaw to meet there.
Notice will b givn later as to the
place of meeting.
.All co-operators and others living
in the county who are interested in
the work are also invited to be
(present. None of thee Club Girls
can afford to miss them.

bride, Professor Na.vra.tll, with Pro
fessor Hoffman at the piatio, gave
a violin 4 number. Following, Mrs.
Hobert Collier, accompanied by Pro
fessor Hoffman, sang. Thia brought
he hush of silence and all eyes to
look for the coming of the bride.
The groom wa? attended by Profes
sor Hickman of Baylor University.
The bride was preceded by her cou
sin, MIhh Inez Wood, of Mum ford, as
maid of honor. 8he wore a cos
tume all green. The bride, all In
white, was the graceful, girlish fi
gure and her train, which swept
from her rich bridal robe. She car
ried the bouquet in white, shower
ed richly with Bprays of green.
"The benediction, sacred and ten
der,, gavo way to sincere congratula
tions from those in the family, from
relatives and friends who had come
especially for this privilege, and
from those who are nearest in friend
ship ties to his home. During this
ths ? refreshment of ? an Ice brick,"

bride's cake was cut and the merry
making In progress, when Professor
and Mrs. Trantham withdrew. They
re-appeared ready for a few days in
Galveston. Already they are enjoy
ing the Galvez and the sea. Re
turning for the summer they will be
in the Downer cottage, on South
FHfth. Into this they take as the
handsomest among their many hand
some wedding gifts, a cheat of sil
ver from Mr. and Mrs. Collier. The
going away suit was in keeping with
the seaside in Its tones of sailor
blue. ... ..
"Professor Trantham has been a
resident of this city only a ? short
time. He has had the chair of Greek
at Baylor University and comes with
the honor of being the holder of one
of the Cecil Rhodes scholarships in
Oxford University. He is from North
Carolina originally, and Is only a
Texan by adoption. This bride is
too, comparatively a new resident of
tills city. But she Is possessed of
many friends. Since her student
years at Baylor Hhe has toured Eu
rope and visited much thru the
state. No couple has been congrat
ulated upon making a new home in
life more sincerely than have Pro
fessor and Mrs. Trantham. They
are due at home with Sunday."

handsome store front for the prop
erty of Mr .H. L. Schlosburg, and
work will commence at an early
date. When completed it will pro
sent a striking appearance ? being
made of marble and tile.
