Count of Votes Made by Contest
Manager Yesterday.
Tim contest linn but a few short dayB to run and most of
the content <1, it t h are thoroughly alive to that fact. This is true
ni least of Hie majority. A few of the candidates, however,
are making tho mistake of thinking they have enough votes
already in reserve and are not working h? hard as they should
these last, days of the contest. Disappointment Is apt to he
their share on that last fateful day?? Feb. 5th., the closing day
of the contest.
The last count of votes by die Contest Manager was
made yesterday, and all votes which now come to this of
flce will immediately be placed In tho ballot box, which wilt
not be bpenrd until the 'judges are ready for the final Count,
shortly after eight ocloc'U Wednesday evening, February 5th.
The candidates should have all their votes In the ballot box
not later tlfati eight o'clock; Wednesday evening. It would be
well to put In all the reserve votes at once for the ballot box
is now sealed and the keys are in the hands of the judges.
The only votes put in tho ballot box by the contest manager
are ?those, which were left over on the desk last, night after
the usual number had been counted for each contestant up to
the 5,00 0 limit. All votes issued from now until the end will
Immediately be placed In ihe ballot box.
It is expected that the contest department will be busy
the last day of the contest and any assistance the contestants
can Offer by coming in early with subscriptions, also, having
subscriptions made out. In regular order will be appreciated
by the management.

lication more Hubscription votoa (special ballotq issued on sub
scriptions) than will place her total more than C,000 votes ahead of
the leader of tlve Tast publication. For example, the leader today
has 7,000 votes, and any candidate may publish enough votes for the
hext issue of the paper to uiako her total reach 12,000 votes. Candi
dates may turn in as many subscription# as they ]svish but the pub
lishing of votes'will be limited by the above ruling.

The Following:
The contest will close promptly at 8 o'clock In the]
evening, Wednesday, Feb. 5th.
Everyone having subscriptions to turn in the last night U
must be in the contest editor's office at 8 o'clock Wedne*,]
day 'night. All wlio are in the office at that time will be
checked up, if they have auy subscriptions to turn in. No
one will be admitted to turn in subscriptions after 8 o'clock.
All subscriptions mustbe made out on receipt book state
the same as heretofore.
No checks of any kind will be accepted the last day Of
the contest, this rule is positive, so do not bring personal
checks, but get them cashed the last day.
The count shown in this ad will be taken by the public
as correct. The judges will proceed to" count all the reeerw
votes deposited in the bbx the last day and will add Jtbeir
totals to the standing of the various contestants as shown
in the list today, and will award the prizes according to the
rules of the contest.

Everyone will get the same kind of a deal, and the la
dies who get the most votes will be declared the winners Sfrvl
cording to the rules of the contest. Do not ask forftspeclsfH
favors for none will be granted. Everyone will recejve the

from this announcement. The contest will close with the accompany
ing schedule of votes prevailing. Absolutely no jump in the vote
schedule tha last minute. No votes will be sold. Votes can only be
secured by turning in subscriptions. Everybody must he in The
Chronicle office by 8 o'clock Wednesday night if they wish to turn in
