Master Richard Kirkland, who
-was operated on for appendicitis in
a hospital in Rock Hill a week or
two ago, has returned home with
every prospect of being, hale and
hearty in a short time.
The county chain gang is now at
work repairing the road between
Camden and the Wateree river. In
talking to Supervisor West a few
days ago he stated that he had

sive trip throughout the county and
that he had never! seen tho roads in
better condition than at present.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Harper Beall, of
Lenolj*, N. C., are spending a few
days with the family of the latter's
brother, Mr. John S. Lindsay. They

to the "Land ot Flowers.",. Mrs.
Beall, frequently visited here a few
years ago, as Mlse -Bessie Lindsay,
and was quite a favorite in Camden
society.

has been a great many things of in
terest <to WinthrOp girls happening
since newfl was last Bent to Ker
shaw county. One thing which ef
fects ?yery ono of the girls was the
sending out of the reports, during
the holidays. It is a fact to be
proud -ot; to TaiOwthat t here -were?
more good reports than ever before
in the history of the college, and
fewer bad ones. TherO were *only
twenty-five poor reports in the
whole student body.. This is a. rec
ord of which every one 16 proud.
The reports were received by the
girlB on ChriBtmas night as Christ
mas presents, ( ? ).
Dr. Wylie, one who has done so
much for America in the pure food
line, gave us an exceedingly inter
esting and helpful address on "The
Health of the Commonwealth" last
Tuesday night. It is a privilege in
deed to hear Dr. Wylie, and it was
appreciated by all.
The Davidson-Carolina debate was
held in the Winthrop College audi
torium Monday night, Jan. 13. This
is the second time this inter-state
debate has been held at Winthrop.
A large crowd was in attendance.
Sponsors from Winthrop for each
team were- chosen. The Winthrop
College Glee Club furnished music
for the occasion.
The General Assembly of South
Carolina been invited to visit
Winthrop on Saturday, Jan. 18. As
Lee's birthday comes on Sunday,
Saturday will be set apart for this
