"In tho efforts which the South
ern Railway Company and the Com
panies associated with it are mak
ing to encourage diversified farm
ing, we find that the man who takes
up the growing of new crops or the
raising of live stock may ho dis
couraged in his first season by tho
failure to market his products sat
isfactorily. We frequently receive
requests for information as to mar
keting, and, in some cases it has
como to our knowledge that perish
able products have spoiled because
producers <11(1 not. know how to mar
ket them.
"Our Companies, in pursuance of
their general policy of helpfulness,
have arranged to appoint, on Janu
ary 1st, four market agents to de
vote all of their time to collecting
and giving information as to mar
kets, methods of packing and ship
ping, etc., to producers who may
seek their co-operation in the ter
ritory traversed by the lines of the
Southern Railway, Alabama Great
Southern Railroad, Augusta South
tern Railroad, Blue Ridge Railway,
Danville and Western Railway, GeoT
gia Southern and Florida Railway,
Mobile and Ohio Railroad, Northern
Alabama Railway, Southern Railway
in Mississippi, Tallulah Falls Rail
way, and Virginia and Southwestern
Railway, The four market agents,
who will report to the Traffic De
