to means by which they may obtain
more benefit from their visits to
theae fairs as they now exist,
The writer became interested in
hog Judging Hpme twenty years ago
and went to so* tlie great hog fchow
made at the Iowa State Fair. Ilo
spent his time around the hog pens'
and close to the show ring and when
a hog won a prize or was Judged
superior to another- he politely ask
ed the reason, If he did not himself
see It. He. learned more of hog
judging in ihLs way in two days thii
he could In a month out of books
or by himself.
Other Southern fairs do not pro
vKlo t h.e facilities they should for
making t he livestock Judging as in
structive as ii iri ii4 h t be, but any
Judge is always willing to give his
reasons for his award*. In fact, we,
think this should always be done on
?every class, whether it Ik asked or
not. Tlve, writer recently acted as
Judge of Jersey cattle at several
fairs. He took pains to state to the
spectators IiIh reasons for his re
wards. in all cases these spectators
showed an appreciation of the cour
tesy and in all but one case. even th
defeated exhibitors expressed entire
t satisfaction with the work. At one
fair several who had seen. do/ens of

visitor obtained all from them which
he ought to. To the man who Ih In
terested in his work and has a pro
gressiva desire to do better, there
is no entertainment more pleasant o
refreshing than that which comes
through the gaining of useful know

A number of newspaper publisher
have kicked on the recent act of Con
Kress requiring that ownerships and
circulation of the daily papers be
made public a? sertain periods, claim
i ii k that Uncle Sam is thus taking
the part of an inquisitive meddler,
but there is one editor up in Penn
sylvania who goes a little beyond
the demand made of him and holds
up for the puhjic gaze some of his
domestic affaire. This is what he
says, after telling who owns his pa
per and how far it circulates: "It is
not required by the act of Congress,
?but. we do not mind telling the Post
master General that, we also own a
lawn mower, and have a limited a
ni o'u nt of stock in two telephone
companies. A dog, locally known as
'Nigger,* tags up around sometimes,
i but we disclaim all ownership of or
responsibility for him. Said dog
sleeps on the mat by our front door
when he don't sleep somewhere else.
He comes to our house when we
have chicken for dinner, and he
climbs up and licks our hands and
face when ho wants a favor. At oth
er times he don't know us. Said dog
is a pretty good politician^ We don't
know what he Js running for, but
| the last we saw yf him he was run
ning from chunk of wood we threw
at him because he played tag with
our undershirt hanging on ?Che
clothes line.

false teeth.
"We used to go to Sunday School.
"If there is any further informa
tion that the , Postmaster General
wants in regard to us, or our paper,

Water and Light Co. Mr, Camp
bell stated that in the event of their
Company purchasing the property
from Its present owners, it would
be entirely rebuilt/ including the
ice plant, which would be placed In
condition and operated to its ? full
capacity, which Is ample to supply
Camden, as well as the surrounding

Found Guilty of Contempt of Court
' of Appeals.
Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 12.- Judge A.
W. Fite,, of the Cherokee circuit
court, to-day was founnd guilty of
writing a tie vspaper article- in cob
tempt of the State court of appeals.
He was sentenced to pay $5, 000, and
given ten days in which to pay it.
In the event of his failure to do so,
he must serve ten days in jail. *
The article in question was a crit
icism of the court of appeals for
twice reversing bis decision, senten
cing a negro to twenty years for at
tempted assault on a white woman. *
