There are about 600 hogs in cljy
limits, though an ordinance forbid
ding hogs is dn city books. Some
places Were immaculate, even the
hog "pens being white washed,' but
the owners could not win a prize,
because hog pens were ruled out
by judges. ?
CANTEY NEWS NOTES.
- Cantey, S. C., Aug. 8. ? Farmers
have finished with their plowing, I
but are busy now with their fodder
and hay. We are having some
very pretty weather ^ no^,- but is
?colder than we have ever witnessed!
-in August Watermelons are very
plentiful in our section. Mr. f . JD.
Huckabee plucked one from his
patch last week which Weighed 35
pounds. Would have had some nice
ones but wet weather caused the
vine to grow and not bear much
fruit.
Mrs. and Mrs. B. R. Truesdell
have as their guest, Miss Ada Ma
haffey , of Wade, Qa. Miss Maljaffo
is a niece of Mr. Truesdell.
Mr. George DeKay and sister J
were the guests at Mr. and Mrs.
B. R. Truesdell's on last Saturday
night and Sunday,
Norman Z. Truesdell had a very1
painful accident on Tuesday last,
when he stepped on a six penny
nail and it went about an inch in
his foot. But is not believed to be
dangerous.

ly recovered from an attack of. ty
phoid fever.

MALTHA BOYS RETURN.
Had Fine Time in Camp at Pretty
City of Annlston.
The Kershaw Guards, Co. ."A"
2nd Inf. N. G. S. C.# returned Mon
day morning from their ten days
encampment at Annlston, Alabama,
and report having had a good
time. There was no sickness
among the troops and Annlston is
descrbled as a. pretty little city,
nestling among thee hills of north
ern Alabama, wtth a warm climate
during the day and pleasantly cool
during the nights. - The South Car
olina troops were always in the
front in the skirmishes and sham
battles and their, camp was com
plimented as 'the cleanest on the
grounds by the army officers.
The company . was in fine shape,
our officers, and -all looked the bet
ter for their outing. Although the
men were kept, busy, every day for
the same length of time as on pre
vious encampments; yet the work
was much lighter, as the drill
grounds were nearby and less march
lng and doublet tming were on the
program . ,
The weather was delightful, the
nights so cool that a woolen blank
et proved very acceptable. Sani
tation was the main point stressed
by the army officers in charge, and
owing te the untiring work of Dr.
S. C. Zemp and his assistants, Drs.
Poor and Brallsfofrd, . the sanitary
condition of the camp was pro
nounced excellent. Ok Friday and
Saturday the Company, under -the
command of Lieut. Young, (Capt.
von Tresckow acting as regimental
adjutant) participated in a hike
and sham battle, in which two brt
gades participated. The night was
spent in shelter tents, and the riaxt
morning thfe two brigade# marched
through Anniston with bands play
ing and * colors flying. it.
The discipline and deport of the
regiment, especially of .oar home
Company, was fine apd deserve
all praise .
