I ^ ? r To Judge by tU? large crowd, ,? n thuslastic applause, and handsome proceeds, tho entertainment given by the talented amateurs of Cam den on Tuesday evening, way one of the moat successful ever given here, and the young men are most heartily accorded the thanks of the community for their seal in making it such a brilliant suc<;ess. ? Abide from the pleasure they afford*d~ the proceeds will make a handsome addition to the hospital fund, and they are hereby most heartily thauked by the ladles of the hospi tal Auxiliary. v To some of the au dience it was <iuite u revelation to find ho much vocal talent of a high order In our community and it Is suggested that they organize a glee club, not only for the pleas ure they'd give the public, but to improve and perfect their voices. "Practice makes perfect," and there 1h enough talent to make an organ ization second to none by giving a bit of time and attention to it. It will also give the young men the confidence and ease, somewhat lack lug now, from a timidity, that keeps them from letting out their really fine voices. Can't they fill a long felt want, too, and form an orches tra? It would mean a great deal for Camden if they would. Every number that was sung brought out the most enthusiastic applause, and an encore was de manded and accorded every time, and the last scene, "'Fun on Team How," simply brought down tho bouse, and It was a disappointment to^many when it brought down the curtain as well. The "darkles" were each "stars" in their roles, and their witty and comical mo tions were a show In themselves. Hurrah for the Camden Minstrels! Pension Checks are Here. Clerk of Court I. C. Died at her home, 1710 Elm Ave., Portsmouth, Va., March 27, 1912, Mrs. Hattle J. Pooser ,wife of Mr. Joseph W. PooBer, and daughter of Mr. K. W. and Mrs. A. R. Porter, aged 3 0 years. She leaves a hus band, two sons and a sweet little girl, a~ mother, tvyo brothers, one sister and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn here death. She united herself with Friendship Baptist church at quite a tender age, of which she remained a con sistent member until her death. Mr#. Pooser was a lovely woman of a sweet disposition. In all the relations of life she was most de voted, and her watchword was duty. Iler greatest ambition and joy seem ed to be to minister to her dear ones. if she erred in this regard it was in being too forgetful of self Her manners were perfection of peace and politeness, the politeness prompted by a true heart. This blow falls most heavily upon her husband and children. To o\ir shortsightedness w.e are made to ex claim, why is it, when one in the prime of life is torn from a life of devotion to husband, relatives and friends? Mrs. Pooser had been In declin ing health for two years suffering with that dread disease pellagra. She bore her sufferings with Chris tian resignation, and during all her long suffering, she was never heard to murmer or complain. Her remains were brought back to her. old homo and laid to rest In the family cemetery by the side -of her little sister, Lula, who died sev eral years ago. But we sorrow not Jis those who have no home, for our loss is her eternal gain. The lov ing heart is stilled; the weary hands at rest; the beautiful spirit so much loved where it was known at home with its God. Rest now, thy work is done, safe with the angels, whit er than snow, waiting for dear ones waiting below. "One by one the chairs stand vacant, that were fill ed by those we loved. Th exercises were very interesting in deed. Several attended from Be? thune, among whom were four of the popular society young folk?. The death of Capt. J. N. Nichol son at Uethune last Saturday was a shock to his many friends in this section. His honest, upright char acter and genial disposition won for him the esteem aud respect of all vrfho knew him. Notwithstanding ; the fact that Spring was late and the weather has been bad until recently, the farmers are pretty ( well advanced with their work. What is the matter wjith the can didates, or those who expect to be candidates in Kershaw county? We haven't heard of a single one who has .announced himself for office in this county, although in several other counties of the State there la a pretty good crop already in the field asking for the votes of the "dear peepul."
