The live stock department of the
Southern Railway is in charge of
Mr. F. L. Word, Live Stock Agent,
who has offices in Atlanta. For
the next few months ho will devote
especial attention to the formation
of county live stock associations
and will be glad to co-operate with
live stock men In any county along
the Southern Railway. A letter ad
dressed to Mr. Word will bring a
prompt reply and will secure his
active interest. He wll be glad to
hear from those who may wsh In
formation as to the advantages of
local associations or the best me
thods to adopt in organizing them.

Cut in a Mowing Machine.
On Friday last while Mr. T. M.
Hunnycutt was operating a mow-1
.ing machlnc on Major A. S. White's

taught in the ^machine and severe
ly cut on his left leg below the
knee. * He was promptly carried by
Maj. White to a physician and the
wound dressed, and we are glad to
state that he 1h how doing very well
Indeed, but it came dangerously
near being a very serious accident
to Mr. Hunnycutt.

"The old companieB of Red Shirts
are requested to organize to attend
the celebration of the great Demo
cratic victory of *76 which will be
held at Columbia on Sept. 27 and
2H, These companies can fill in
ulth any persons acceptable to
them. Uniform of officers will be
black broad brim hat, bla^k pants
and red Bhlrt. No person will be

out a red shirt. ^

New Year. The new year falls on
September 28, and marks the five

second year of the Hebrews. The

Isaac Carson, the little 4-year-old
pon of Mr. J. T. B. Elliott, of Cas
satt, met with the misfortune one
day last week of breaking one of
his legs. The little fellow wks on
the porch and sllded off to the
ground, causing the accident. Dr.
Clyburn was Immediately telegraph
ed for and prompt medical atten
tion was given and we are glad to
report the little fellow doing as
well as coud be expected under the
circumstances.
