On Tuesday morning Mrs. Lucy
Shannon Boy kin was hostess at an

The house wan prettily decorated in

sans. After several hours had been
pleasantly vrhiled away in playing
"society's favorite game," a deli
cious salad course was served. Mrs.

A Merry Crowd (Joes to Darlington.

a merry party left town to attend
a daneo in Darlington, a town fam
ed for the eliarm and warmth of

it's pretty gills and the gallantry

Saddle and l'addle Club Receiiilon.
The Saturday afternoon reception
at the Saddle and Paddle club was
an unusually bright and pleasant
affair with Mrs. Lucy S. Boykin and
Ayss Maggie Beard as hostesses.
The crowd was large, and all In
a merry mood. The refreshments,
which consisted of sandwlchs, crack
ers and punch, were daintily serv
ed and much enjoyed. These af
fairs grow more and more popular,
and Saturday afternoon is now a
red letter day In the social calen

N. C., who has been visiting her sis

Unhappy Incident at the South Car
olina Insane Hospital.
Luther Knight, a well known
young man of Sullivan's township
ind a son of Mr. William Knight,
Committed suicide in the South Car
olina Hospital for the Insane Satur
day and was brought home the sain
evening. Sunday he was burled ut
Kabun Creek church, near his old
home.
Mr. Knight wnu a young marriect
man. his wife having been a Miss
rolllson, a daughter of Mr. Joe Tol
llson. For some time he had been
despondent and on several occasions
had threatened to ?nd hiu li'e. .fur-,
about three weens ago It was
thought best, on account of his men
tal condition to carry him to the
state hospital tn Columbia. His
case apparently not being a severe
one, the officials there evidently
allowed him more or less liberty as
Is" usual In such cases. Taking ad
advantage of the freedom accorded
him, he got hold of a knife of some
kind and severed the arteries of his
throat. He died shortly afterwards.
His death is greatly deplored by
a large number of friends who had
hoped that his mind was only tem
porarily unbalanced and that he
would soon return home a well maii

church mouse! but his name should
be "written in large letters at the

the progress of our town than their
weight in gold. They know evei>
point of interest and of advantage
for miles around; for any stranger

learn everything that adds to the
honor of our town and will be most
favorably impressed. Such persons
overlook with true patriotism all
shortcomings . and magnified with
honest citizenship every advantage.
