Chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Bev
erly It. McCreight, a merry party
went un a picnic last Friday. When
hearts are young, there is nothing
so satisfying, gratifying, and alto
gether enjoyable as a picnic, add
su-rely no more suitable place could
be found than Knight's Iiill, with
it's 'ailis and dales, shady nooks and
lovely woodland paths. Such a place
would have been popular when
"knighthood was in flower." On
the bank of the river, with the
shuttle of reflected sunshine danc
ing back and forth, and listening to
liquid prattle, a sumpto,us dinner
was spread.
Those who enjoyed this occasion
were: Miss Lee Clelzer and her
guests. Miss Jean Wyiie, of Rock

ban played havoc with the old corn
and how much rain wo may have
now, it will not mako more than
half a crop for ith vitality is in a
large measure exhausted. Up to
three weeks ago we had the finest
prospect for a corn crop wo have
had In years, but the extreme heat
has caused the trouble. Those who
planted on the Williamson plan have
realized that It is no good In dry
weather. 1 doubt If many people
ha vo known a hotter summer or
heard of a more extended drought
In the United States than what we
have heard of for the lant two
months. Just to think, half of the
country has had no rain scarcely
in two months or more. Cotton is
holding Out bettor, but gardens, etc.
have gone under. /
The fourth passed off quietly, Nj/
casualties were heard of. The
day was generally observed, as work
was up and nothing pushing on the
farm. Several went to Provldeenco
Springs. Somo to attend the good
roada meeting and others to dance.
Frotractod meeting will soon start
in the neighboring churches.
