Miss llallic Carrison Entertains.
A card party was given at the
handsome homo of Mr. and Mrs. H.
CI. C.'arrlson on upper Broad street
last Wednesday afternoon with Miss
Hal lie Carrison as hostess, and Miss
Smith, of Chraleston as guest of
honor. Miss Carrison entertained
her guests on the broad piazzas,
where five tables of bridge were
played and refreshments served.
The first prize?a 4ock of cards,
was won by Miss Selma Parish, the
guest's prize was a pair of em
broidery scissors. Those who en
joyed the pleasant occasion were^:

Death of Miss Hoykln.
The community was Baddened on
last Wednesday with the newn of
the doath of Miss Rltta Boykin, so
much beloved, and so well remem
berer in this, her native home.
Alter an illness of more than a
yoar she died in Charleston at the
home of her Bister, Mrs. W. M. Wil
8(11, and her remains were brought
here on Wednesday and laid to
.rest with her ancestors.
Miss Boykin was the possessor
of culture, beauty and amiability;
In fact she had a charm of person
ality, that will long remain un
dlmmed in the memory of those
*ho knew her. Shfe was the daugh
ter of the late Dr. E. M. Boykin,
and sister of our fellow townsmen,
Messrs. John and Edward Boykin,
and Mrs. W. M. Wilson, of Charles
ton, to whom we extend our sympa
thies. (

Paul's Church In _ West Wateree.

the congregation. The old building,
like many other things?was not
"up-to-date"?had to step down and
out. Mr. Browne's sermon was just=
as was expected?good In every re
spect. His subject -t was "The
Church," We are better prepared
now to appreciate the ehurch than
before. How very" soon would thin
good old world of ours be wrecked
and ruined, all of the churches
were olosed. There are three pew
churches on the Wateree circuit

Death of a Splendid Voting .Man.,
It is with sincere regret that we
announce the death of Mr. Murray
C'. Hell, son of ("apt. J. J. Bell, of
West Wateroe, which occurred on 1
Holiday, after an illness of several >
weeku of typhoid fever. Mr. Hell
was only 111 years of age and gave
promise of a long and useful life.
Truly "In the midst of life we are
in death." The funeral services
were held at Kbeneezer Methodist
Church at 4 o'clock on Tuesday af
ternoon conducted by Rev. Mr.
Wayne. To his bereaved family we
tender our sincere sympathy.
