It will be good news, to all to
learn that we are soon to have the
long looked for bridge over the Wa
teree river.. We are informed by Su
pervisor West that the concrete was
placed in the Iftfet pier yesterday,
and the finishing work of tbe bridge

Penalty for the Violation Thereof.

? Bo it ordained by tho City Council of
Camden, H. C., in due session assembled,
the 2nd|day of May, 1910: J
Section I. That il shall be unlawful
for any person to operate an automobile
or 'notor vehicle in the e?rc6M of uiei'iiy
of Camdeu, without first having obtain,
ed a license, from the Clerk of the Court
of the County where such owner or oper
ator resides, in accordance with the stat
ute law of the State, and without hav
ing first placed upon the back yf minh tr
hicievinnS'TCOirffpieddii#' jilace', the name
of the County in which-his certificate is
flledTimd also the number of auch vehi
cle, which name and number shall be
plainly placed or printed thereon, the
number in Arabic numerals, black on
white ground, of not less than three
inches in height, and stroke to be of
width not Icsb than one-half inch. In
case of deslers of motor vehicles, each
car shall carry the name of the dealer and
(his license number, in accordance w;ith
the law of tho State of 8outh Carolina.
Sec II Any person operating an au
tomobile or motor vehicle in passing an
other automobile or motor vehicle, shall
pass to the right cf each other, and that
whenever overtaken in passing each oth
er. shall pass to the left, the frpnt ma
chine giving way, if necessary, to the
right of tho preceeding machine. Auto
mobiles or motor vehicles uhall keep to
the ri?ht of the highway and never de
part therefrom except in case of emergen
cy. On approaching corners, or vehi
cles or persons, horns of al&rtns shall be
sounded emphatically several times.
Corners must be turned at a speed not
over five, miKs, and all crossings passed
at a slow speed unless absolutely clear.
Sec. IIJ. A person operating ft motor
vehicle shall, at reouest or upon a signal
by putting up the mind, from a person
riding or driving a restivo horso oKhors
0*. or other draft animals, bring such i
motor vehicle immediately to a stop, rf
necessary, having duo regard for safety
of persons, vehicles and animals, and
traveling in opposito direotion,' remain
stationary so long as may be reasonable
to allow such horses or animals to pass
And in traveling in the same direction,
the person or persons operating the motor
vehicle shall not pass any person or per1
sons in charge of an animal or anima's. if
requested by such person or persons in
charge of such animal or animals not to
do so, until such person or persons liave
gotten co a place where thoy could drive
such animal or animals out of roiyf, or
when passage could be wafely t-fleeted. or
when such person or persons witliout juat
cause and excuse-intentionally obstruct
the passage of any motor vehicle: "Pro
vided, That in case each horse or animal
appear badly freightened, or he is re
quested to do eo. the person operating
tuch motor vehicle shall cause the motor
of such vehicle to cease running so long
rs shall be reasonably necessary to pre
vent accident and insure tho safety of
persom. vehicles and animals.

vehicle in operation shull have lit at least
one light on the front and one ia the

light at least two hundred (800) feet, and
enable any one in said vehicle to see
plainly forihat distance.

cept in case of testing engine for a few

Sec. VI. That no driver of automo
biles or motor vehicles most operate his
machine on the public streets of the City
of Camden in a dangerous mannerN>rat

ing automobilea and motor vehicles is
considered dangerous to the publjp and U
