Denfeuae of tho Knd-Hcat Hog.
There lias been considerable of the
blindness tlmt takes 'up and continues
a senseless cry in the repetition of the
anathemas hurled at the "end-seal
hog" as the illustration and embodi
ment of all eenlflehnesw. It would he
as logical to accuse the man who en
tors a car that is empty and chooses
the shady side on a hot day of being
"a hog' and requiring him to give up
his seat to any one, coming after him,
who might fancy it: The hoggish
ucks of the individual who points out
the "end-scat hog" and wants to
possess what that individual has come
Igeally by, does not b'eein to be notic
ed, it is only the ;tiai< who gels (lie
end seal lirsl and prefcring the title.
The Norwich Bulletin puts this case
very fairly and conclusively us fol
lows :
"Those who use the trolley con
stantly do not find I heir fcllow-t rav
elera wholly devoid of mauner*. After
all that has been snid about the end-,
seat liog and all other kinds of trav
eling hogs, the people with fellow
feeling and deference and politeness
are always in the crowd, It is a I rav
eling habit among the "regulars" to
give the end of the seat to the person
who leaves the car first and io so seat
themselves that they do not have lo
crowd past one another in leaving (he
ear. The having a choire of seats is
human, and why the passenger on
time should be deprived of the pleas
ure of riding in a preferred seat ob
tained by promptness, bv a late
comer, never has been and never will
he explained, although tin* late-coin
ers often act as if it were the duly
of every one to make room for them."

Among other things she Kavs:
"Three chubby, rosy-cheeked boys.

reasons for using and recommending
tho food, (5 rape- Nuts, for these
youngsters havo been fed on Grape

"I gavo a package of Grape-Nuts to
a neighbor whoso 3-year-old child

Grape-Nuts and cream greedily, and
the mother continued tho good work,
and it was not long before n truly
wonderful change manifested Itself
In tho child's face and l>ody. The re

"Both husband and 1 %se Grape

Many mothers Instead of destroy

Washington, D. C ? With the pub
lication of Acting Secretary of the
Navy Wlnthrop's approval of the find
ings of tho court of inquiry that Lieu
tenant James N. Button, Jr., of the
Marino Corps, "was directly and sole
ly responsible for hl? own death at
Annapolis, Md., nearly two years
ago," the famous case became a
closed Incident as far as the Navy De
partment Is concerned.
Counsel for the Buttons intimated
that they were far from satisfied
with the verdict, and that they prob
ably would take the Issues to Con
gress, with a vl?w of having a full
hearing of the case' by a committee of
that body.
Mrs. Sutton declined to discuss tho
result of the Inquiry, which sho
sought In an effort to clear her boy's
name from thq stigma of nulcld*?.
Acting Secretary Winthrop said that
ho had dissolved the court of Inquiry
and had given directions that copies
of the findings of the court and Its
conclusions, together with his obser
vations thereon, bo sent to llenry R,
Tavla, the attorney for Mrs. Button,
and to Arthur A. Ulrney, Lieutenant
Adams' attorney.
The findings completely exonerate
Lieutenants Utiey, Willing and lie
van ? the three young officers who
were present at tho killing? of any
criminal connection with t^o acci
dent, though tho report ' censures
them for falling in their duty to dl?
arm and arrest Lieutenant Button.
Too much tlmo has elapsed slnco
the Incident In the opinion of tho
Navy officials, to undertake any pro
ceedings against the persons whoxo
conduct In the caso has been made
the Bublect of criticism by the court.
They, however, will bo made ac
quainted in an official, but informal,
way of these criticisms, which will
both servo the purpose of an admoni
tion to them and of presenting to
them the view taken by tho depart
ment of their conduct.
Although Mr. Winthrop, in his in
dorsement, speaks of the lax state of
discipline existing at tho marine
school prior to and at the time of Sut
ton's death, he *ays that conditions
have improved; that splendid disci
pline prevails at this tlmo, and that
he la confident that the unfortunate
situation previously existing will not
again pi evail.
The marine school of application is
now at Port Ftova), S. C., under the
j direction of I ieutenant-Cclonel Colo,
who is regarded as an excellent olll
