According to a recent rrport
there are 156 Rhodos scholars at
Cxford, rf which 79 come from
America. S?uth Carolina has two.
Mr. Hydilck of Wofford college,
and Mr. W. P. Mills, who took his
Matter's degreo at the University
two years ago. Only three schol
ars took honor moderations, one of
them being Mr. Mills. An ixami
nation for a scholar to succeed Mr.
Mills will bo held next October. ?

In accordance with the Act to raise
supplies for the fiscal year commencing
January 1st, 1908, notice is hereby given
that the books will bo open for collect
ing State, county and school taxes from
October 15, 1908, to March loth. 1909. A
penalty of 1 per cent will be added on
all taxes unpaid by January 1st, 1909.
A j>enalty of two per cent on all unpaid
by Feb. 1st. 1909, A penalty of seven
per cent will be added on all unpaid
March 1st. 1909
