YOU'RE TOO THIN.
4 f t hi Stomas h ProJuu Acid
mi n fat ion of tht Food.
Ifs Stomach Catarrh
Horn* people are thin and always r?*
roalu (bin, from temperamental rea
sons. Probably In euch cm mi nothing
Can be done to clang* thU personal
peculiarity.
liut tbore are a large number of peo
ple who get tnin, or remain thin, who
naturally would be pluutp and fleshy
but for aomq dlgeatlve derangement.
Thin paoplo lack In adlpoae tissue.
Adlpoee tissue is chiefly oowpoted of
fat.
Fat la derived from the oily conetlt
ueute of food.
The fat-making foods are called by
the physiologist, hydrocar bous. This
olaes of foods are not digested In the
stomach at all. They are digested In
the duodenum, the division of the ali
mentary canal just below the stomach.
The digestion of fat is mainly, if not
wholly, the work of the panoreatlc
jnloo. This Juico Is of alkallue reac
tion, and la rendered Inert by the addi
tion of acid. A. hyperacidity of the
dlgeative fluids of tlio stomach paaslng
[down Into the duodenum, destroys
the panoreatlo fluid for digestive pur
poses. Therefore, the fate are uot di
gested or emulsiflcd, and the system is
deprived of its due proportion of oily
constituents, llenoe, the patient grows
tblu.
The beginning of the trouble is a ca
tarrhal condition of tho stomach whloh
causcs hyperacidity of the gastric
juices. This hyperacidity is caused by
fermentation of food In tho stomach.
When the food Is taken into the stom
ach, If tho process of digestion does
not begin immediately, acid fermenta
tion will toko placo. This areata* a
hyperaoldity of the stomach Juices
which iu their turn prevent the pan
creatic digestion of the oils, and the
emaciation results.
A dose of Poruna beforo cach meal
hastens the stomach digestion. Jly
hurrying dlgoetlon, l'eruna prevents
fermentation of tho contents of tho
stomach^and the panoreatlc Juice is thus
preserved in its normal utate. It then
only remains for tho patient to eat a
sumclant amount of fat-forming foods,
and tho thinness disappears and plump
ness takes its placo.
