First a scholarship of free tuition

South Carolina, at least twenty
years old. able to pass tho entrance

a lineal descendant of a Confeder
ate veteran, and whoso application

chapter of the Daughtors of the
Confederacy in South Carolina.

throp College, Rock Hill, S.C,
with board and tuition worth $101.
Applicants for tills scholarship
must be at least 10 years of agr, be
able to enter the Freshman olans at
Winthrop; must pledge themselves
to complete the four years' course
x offored by the Division ; must pre
sent a certificate stating that their
family cannot afford rto pay for
their education; must be the
daughter or linoal descendant of a
Confederate veteran of honorable
record (in the cases of equal at
tainments offered preference will
be given daughters of widows of
Confederate soldiers) and must be

Zens. He was a man of generous
impulses and nil Who knew him
could not help hut to admire him
It is sad to realize that wo will
never soe his pleasant face on our
strcoia ugaiu. Several aso
Mr. Nettles was stricken with
paralysis and he lias never been
well since. He died at the home of
his son^in law, Mr. H. L. YVatkine,
last Sunday evening, and the funer
al was held on Monday afternoon'
at i o'clock, conducted by Rev. L.
A. Mitchell. Mr. Nettles leaves a
widow and eight children who have
| the doep sympathy of our entire
community.

At the annual meeting of the
Memorial Association, the follow
ing resolutions of respect and sym
pathy were adopted on the death of
one of our moat valued and cfflcienl I
members, Mrs. Eva H. Baum, who,
at the time of her death, was presi- 1
dent of our Association :
Bo it Resolved :
1. That in the death of our he
loved friend and co-worker, wo have
lost a faithful, loyal friend ? one who
was over ready with helpful hand
and loving heart, to r.ssistin all the
affairs of this Association, and to
further its interests by every means
in her power.
2. That though wo cannot un
derstand tho mysterious Providence
whloh takes from us this useful
member, still we must bow in sub
mission to an all-wise God, believ
ing that "He doeth all things well."
We recognize the fact that her
place in our work can never bo fill
ed, for her whole life was an object
lesson in kindness, helpfulness, ser
vice.
3. That ?o cherish her memory
in our hearts with loving remem
brance, and strive to imitate her
many virtues.
4. That a page in our minutes
be set apart as a memorial to her,

An Instructed Delegation lor Bryan.
The Kershaw County Democratic I
Convention met yesterday at the court
house, and was culled to order by
: County Chairman Kirkland A tem
parary organization was ellected by
the election oi County Chairman Kirk
land as president and Mr. C. W.
Birchmore. secretary The tempora
ra otlibers were subsequently elected
permanent.
Delegates were present from the fol
lowii.jf clubs: DeKalb Club of Camden,
Hermitage Mill, Ptae Creak, Antioch,
Blaney, Fine Troe, Belk Hill, Liberty
Hill, Lutfofr. Abney, Buffalo, Shav
lor's Hill, Harmony, Twenty Creole,
Wostville, Granny's Quarter, Beulah,
Doby's Mill, Enterprise, Sandy Grove
Swift Creek and Bethune.
Before the delegates were balloted
for they were required to state their
choice for president, and each ono de- j
elared himself for W? J. Bryan. By
motion of the convention thoy were in
structed to support delegates to the
Denver convention who would favor
Bryan so long as his name was before
ine national convention.
Maj. Johu G. Richards was elccted i
State Executive Committeemen. Ho
was also placed in nomination for
delegate to the Htate Convention, but
voluntarily withdrew Lis name as he
had just been elected a member of the
State executive otffimlttor'. The fol
