life and left her temporarily, at
least, stone blind. She was carried

Although she was conscious and very
quiet mentally, her circulation had al
most stopped and she was blind. Dr.

Wild with anxiety, her son, who
had come down from Cleveland to
visit her, and who is very devoted to
her, stood fiver the bed, urging the
physieiau to do best to save her

Dr. llelmick, the night physieiau ai
the penitentiary, has been attending
Mrs. Chadwick and treating her for a
nervous trouble. Dr. Ourrett, the
day physician, says I hat she is a neu
rasthenic, and that her nervous sys
tem is in utter collapse. He said that
tlio collapse was due to the strain
which she underwent during her son's
visit. He says thai she lias a very
nervous heart, and that any excite
ment brings on 2111 exaggerated ner
vous attack.

has called in oculists, who are ad
ministering treatment.

of Insular Affairs has received a
cablegram announcing that the Sant >
Domingo Congress passed a resolu
tion delegating to the Kxecutive of
that government full power and auth
ority to act on the $20,01)0.000 Doaii
nician loan contract. The vote was
1-1 for and 2 -against. The session iu
which this authority was given to
President Caeeres was an extraord
inary one, called for September Kith,
to deal with the latest proposition
for the contract for the loan by
Kuhn, Leob & Co., of New York.
This proposition provided for the
supply of the needed $20,000,000 on
condition that the loan be taken at
!>() cents on the dollar. The bonds to
run for 30 years with permission for
the Dominican government to re
deem them at the end of 10 years.
