"A Delightful Social Event Notwith
standing Heavy Downpour
of Rain.
The downpour of last Thursday
found a; large number of ladies of(

r ibe pretty rose-bedccked rooms of
: Mrs. ?f. B. Wallace, enjoying her
cordial hospitality and merrily con
testing for tlie high .scores of eix
banded euchP^,
Little thougtfrK"was giveu to the
weather man's doings outside, un
til two hours had been delightfully
?pent, frnd departure for home was
thought of, when, to our dismay
we found tbe rain still pouring in
relentless ""torrents. Visions of
aoaked Jootge'ar, wilted headgear,
- and drenched ruin of our "best"
I.costumes confronted?tts with ap
^palling consternation, for veTy few
of ns had husbands or futhers who
figured In Bradstrects. But the
good o\d adage of the "friend in
need" W*s fully verified when Mr.
W? L. DePass appeared upon the
scene, and we found that hie
thoughtful courtesy had provided
inug sheltering back* to convey us
all to our homes. And thus were
- our apprehended difficulties most
hSppily adjusted, and a jolly^ride
home was made the unexpected

I lie returns fro hi the celection held in this County
yesterday indicate that prohibition has won by a safe
majority. The following precincts have been heard from,
the first figures after the name of each precinct show
the number of votes cast for the Dispensary, and the
second, the number cast against it:
p J
Camden, 63 155; .Stockton, 3 7; Mt. Zion, 5 14; Bla
ney, 44 5; McLean's Branch, 1 21; Bethune, 29 26; Ra
ley's Mill, 22 3; Westville, 5 11; Buffalo, 21 1; Liberty
Hill, 3 20; Lang's Mill, J6 8; Brewer's Store, 0 5; Sliay
lor's Hill, 7 10; Rabon's X Roads, 14 36.
The above gives a majority of 88 for prohibition. At
Hanging Rock there was no election. Kirkley's Store
has not been heard from at the hour of going to press
(5 o'clock.) The Election Commissioners will meet on
V \
Tuesday next and declare the result of the election. The
. \ o
official count may cause some slight variations in the
above figures, but not enough to change the result.
