Kditor of Tho Camden Chronicle:?
I desire t(\ tnukc a brief statement
in regard to * the recent survey and
location of the boundary line be
tween Kershaw and Lancaster Coun
ties made by authority of the Hoard
of Commissioners of Kershaw Coun
ty as there seem to he orroneouH im
pressions on tho part of some in re
gard to this matter.
Tho linn between tho two coun
ties, as prescribed by tho Legisla
ture, in tho statute of 1n!I2, the last
on ibo subject, had never, so far oh
lmown, bo<n located by aq trial sur
vey, fttnl the defoTtninafion of iIiih
boundary lino bad become a matter
of neco?si'v for tlio proper conduct
of tho business of (lie County. All
ftttompis to have a survey under h
islative enoctinent bud failed owing
to obstruction interposed in some
quartern*. 'J'ho Com mufti oners of
Kershaw County, being thwarted in
. scouring ii'iy relief through the Leg,
islaluro, determined themselves toj
have the lino laid duwn on the lund
"by a competent engineer, in accord
ance Willi tho description of I lie
boundary in the Inst act fixing tin*
same. lJeforo taking the step. how
ever, an invitation wns extended to)
tho Board of County Commissioners
of Lancnst-i r to co-operale with the
Kershaw County Hoard in making
this survey and settling nil disputes
and doubts in regard <o tliis lino.
The Lancaster Board declined to ac
cede to the proposition, and the KerJ
sliaw Hoard proceeded to locate the J
4iue for itseir. The Commissioners
of Kershaw County fully believe llial<|
the fiurvov they have tnado is a cor
rect loca'i >n of the boundary, and
they expoor to claim jurisdiction to
that liue. l'axpayers who recognize1
that line, and pay their tuxes to Ker
shaw County, will receive tho sup
port of the Kershaw County Hoard
