Liberty Hill Picnic.

Liberty Hill Rifles was held here 01
Saturday, .July 21st. Ah Liberty
Hill is ?o far from the centers of
population many thought the crow-J
in Attendance would be smalt hut
their doubt* wete soon dispelled, a*
long before the king of day bad
reached the zenith every available
shade wan filled with people and
vehicle*. Many people cirno a dm
tance of twenty miles and from all
least three counties. The number
of people present, well estimated ?
by those who ought to be able to j
judge? al from 1,200 to 1,400, we
know that it was by far the largest
crowd we havn ever seen at ihis
place. The day was typical July
weather without rain, but a few
pa?sing clouds which tempered the
effects of the aim's rays slid made
the beat less oppressive. The day
wi? spent iu viewing the scenery,
listening to tho speeches, watching
a game of hail, betwten Heath
Springs ami Liberty Hill nines, and
in conversation. The heat of order
prevailed throughout the day and
ibe^rfnly thing to mar the plensuies
offtheday was the faot that our
popular and efficient commander,
/apt. J. G. Richards, nab detained
jat home most of the day by the se
ious illnees of a member of his
family, who we all hope will soon tie
better. We forgot to mention soon
er that the dinner, which wan by no
means the least enjoyable part of
the program was served in groups,
on account of the large number,
present, the quantity nag ample,
the quality excellent, and it seem
ed, was enjoyed to the fullest by alt
present,. It whs near 11 o'clock
when Senator Tillman arrived and
announced that he would have to
return to Heath Springs by 2:30
o'clock in order to" make railway
connection far houie, such being
the case his lime was very limited
and he whs compelled to make his
address and take dinner on the road.

chairman of the meeting and intro
duced the speakeit, the first' being
Senator Tillman who prefaced his
remaiks by sa\ing that he was al
ways glad to meet the people, but
wss especially tflad l.o meet the
citizens of Liberty Hill section as
part of his early education whs ob
tained at a plaoe by that name.

plaudits of his audiencv. He was
presented with a beautiful bouquet
of flowers by a daughter of Cspt.
