council held last, Monday evening
Mr. J. J. Goodale wi? elected Clerk
and Recorder. The chief of police
and all of the old policemen were
re-elected, a? were also the hoalth
officer, street commissioner, clock
keeper and city attorney. Mr. W.
B. Porter was added to thq police
force.

Moat Efficient Fire Department In
Tha State.
On Wednesday last about one
oVIock ond of tlte old wooden build"
inge on lower Main street, used as n
restaurant Mnd barber shop, was dis
covered to be on fire. The wind was
blowing almost a gale, the building
as dry as powder and everything
indicated a speedy destruction of the
bui)ding. The Ore company respond
ed promptly and in ten minutes the
fire was extinguished. We have^the
best fire department in the State.

Cars When Disconnected
With A Railroad Engine
Over Any Railroad Track

its of the City of Camden,
S. C.
Be it ordained by the City Council of
^Camden. S. C.
1. Tbat from and after the passage of
this Ordinance it shall be unlawful for any
person or corporation to allow any loaded
or unloaded car to pass orer the Raiload
track of any Railroad within the City of
Camden, S. C., whilo disconnected from a
Railroad engine.
2. Any person who shall violate the
terms of this Ordinance shall be guilty of
a misdemeanor and upon conviotion there
of shall be fined in a sum not exceeding
One Hundred Dollars (#100 00), or impris
oned tor a term not exceeding a period of
Thirty (80) days
Ratified by the Mayor and Aldermen of
the City of Camden, S. 0., in Council as
sembled, this 03rd day of April, 1906.

Telephone and Telegraph
Company to Use the Public
Streets of the City of Cam
den, S. C., for the Purpose
of Placing Poles and Elec
trical Conductors Thoreon.
Section 1. lie it ordained by the City
Council of the City of Camden, S C ,
that permission bu and the name is here
bv granted to the .Southern Hell Tele
phone and Telegraph Company, its suc
cessors and assigns, to erect, operate
and maintain lines of telephone and
telegraph, including the necessary poles,
fixtures and electrical conductors upon,
along and oyer the public roads, streets
and highways of the City of Camdeo. 8
C?, as its business may from time to
time require,. provided that all poles
shall V>h neat and symmetrical, and pro
vided that all poles shall he set between
the nicle walks and street drams in ?uoh
a manner hp mi no way to interfere with
passage alon^ viftid sidewalks or with the

poles by virtue of this Ordiauce shall bo

Company shall, upon demand, provided

the City of Camdea. 8. C., may desire to
attach either flro alarm, telegraph or
police telegraph wires, for the free use
of the police and fire alarm system of the j
CUy of Camden, 8. C .

in herhy authorized to sell and tranHfer
said property to the said Southern Hell
Telephone and Telegraph Company '/and
the said Southern Bell Telephone and

ised to maintain, and operate aaid lines
und property, or pucb part* of them as it
may desire, in the street* and public
places of said City of Camden, 8. C.,
free and clear of any and all conditions
or charges heretofore imposed upon said

Section 7. It la agreed and under*
stood that the Southern Bell Telephone
and Telegraph Company is required to

months from the date hereof reconstruct
