Confederate Veteran with no bitter
ness in his pure soul. Enemies lie
had none. A nun after God's own
image he walked in and out among
men shedding abroad the pence of
God that passed) understanding.
Dr1. Mills was very severely wound
ed when Richmond was evacuated,
shot through the lungs ? and Ui it
wound gave him much trouble at
ways. I)r. Mills* record for foui
years during the war, his gallantry,
hts pluck and his untiring devotion
to duty both as a soldier of Christ
and a hero of the war is tutoly a
horitage of which his children way
well he proud. Besides his devoted
wife he leayes one daughter, Miss
Mary Mills, of Camden, and four
sous, Rev. W. H. Mills, of Agusta,
Messrs L. T. and Plumn&er Mills, of
Camden, and Mr. t. K Mil!*, of Da
vidson College.
Iu a sknteh of his life written by
himself in Mr.y, it closes with
these beautiful words, showing the
high christian character of the man :
"Now while drawing near the
close of my earthly ministry ot
more than thirty five years it is
with great satisfaction that I am
j^ble to look back and recount how
wonderfully kind and helpful God
has been to me through all lliese
years. The best of good feeling
and harmony have prevailed ever
between myself and ail the people
whom f have served. There has
never been tbo leant, bitterness, not
even one hard word hi s ever been
