Mrs. Harriet Betdin, of Litch
field, Conn., died here rrfet Saturday
afternoon of apopbxy. ' Her remains
were sent to Liiohfitld Sund-iy
morning. Mrs. Beldln was the
mother of Dr. Heldln, so well known
here.
Mr. W. B, Huclcabee, formerly of
this county but who for a number
of years has resided in Rock
Hill, died l?st Tuhsday at the home
of Mr. John T. Truesdell in the
upper part of this county. His re
mains wore sent to Rock Hill for
burial. Deceased is a brother <?i
Mr. W. W. Huckabec, candidate for
Sheriff.

last week the matter of appointing
an Auditor for the unexpired term
of Mr. NV. It. McCreight, deceased,

John J. Good ale received the recom
mendation to the Governor and he
was forthwith appointed. M r.
Goodale has had considerable ex
perience in the Auditor s office
is well qualified to fill the positing

Fearful Wreck on the S. A. X*
A passenger who oame to Cain -
railroad told of a terrible wreck
which oocurred on that road yester
day morning. The white flyer dqe
here about sunrise, at some point
uhove Hamlet, N. C.? ran into an
open switch and into a freight
train completely wreoking the pas*
sengoi? train. Fire brc.ke out, he
said, and the eulire train was'barned
up. Strange to gay no jlyes were
lost. The engineer was badly bruis*
ed and the conduotofr had both leg*
out off.

Slater Brunson was a good woman. I

abundant opportunity to prove that. Al

love. Thia absolute sincerity and nn
comproroiaing loyalty made her very
dear fethoss who really knew her.
