On October 23rd a bale of cotton
was sold to MeLeod- Wilkins King
Co , of this plaeo by a negro who
gave Uie name as "W. House/'
from the Davis section. The bale
was rc-sold loMi\ W. T. SelleiB who
shipped It to Wilmington to Sprunt
nfr %nny, and when the bale whs ex
amined by them, they discovered
it waa "salt packed," and they
shipped It bask to Mr. Sellers who
was roimbuM^d for the cotton and
all expenses by MeLeod- Wilkins
King ( 'O. The halo was roopened
?t. tho Oil Mill gin and abohl 125
pounds of salt was taken out.
The aalt had been put in between
t he-layers of cotton for the purpose
of swindling. A warrant was ta.
ken out for House and ho will have
to answer in tho Court for his
shrewdness, and no doubt pay
dearly for his attempt to g?t rich
