Kelley Not Caught.
Columbia Record, May 18.
Sheriff Smith, of Lw county, was
in the city today for tbe purpose of
getting the governor to offer a re
waid for the capture of Kelley, who
hilled Oreeob. The -sheriff says
that public sentiment is considera
bly against Kelley now iu view of
his escaping, though U might not
have been so had he given himself
up. When the oume was commit
ted the sheriff was in Aiken on
official business and returned tike
day o! the tragedy. A. member of
Kelley's family told blm it was un
neoeiaary to go for? him as he In
tended to give himself up. Never
theless, tho sheriff wont after him
Immediately, but found that he had
gone. Members of bis family said
tbat they did not know where he
was and tiiey said they did not ex
pi ct to see higa back in the im
mediate future. The sheriff tele
graphed to various points but has
he^ard nothing of Kotffcy. He is
firmly convinced that be is out of
the state, and that a reward will
be necessary to aid iu Ida appre
hension. lie brought* along a

zens of the county personally call
ed on the governor in reference to
the matter. The governor will
wait a day or two* before acting in
