The two-year-old von of Mr.
Henry JdcKagen wan run over on
Dugan street to-day by a two. horse ;
wngon, driven i>y James Ludd, col
ored, and painfully injured,
Two of Mr. McKagen's children
were playing in tho middle of the
street, and when the wagon ap
proached at a trot they made no
elFort to get out of tho way until
the team wan almost upon them.
They Blurted to run out of the way,
but tho little boy tripped and f?dl
with his head io tho rut. The next
instant the vragon wheel* struck
him. Mr. I). J. Chandler who wsta
passing on a bicycle picked the
child up and carried him into the
bou?e to his mother, lllood was
gushing from his mouth and he wan
apparently in a dying condition.
Mr. Chandler then pursued the
wagon and catching tip with it in
O'Donnell Co's. lot had Ludd
a rrestpd.
Ludd Bays that he did uot see the
children in the street and did not
know that he had run over the lit
tle boy until he was arrested and
told what he had doue. Mr. Chan
dler says thai Ludd acted as if he
did not know that he had run over
the ohild, for ho drovo right on and
although he called to him to etop he
did not do so nor did he drlvo any
faster. The accident seems to have
been the result of the carelessness
of Ludd, who was not looking ahead
to boc where ho was driving, as he
should have done, and to the fact
that the children wore playing in
the street whero they should not
jhave been.
An hour after the accident the
little hoy had regained conscious
ness aud examination showed that
he was not /atally injured. There
is a severe cut and bruise back of
one ear where the wheel struck bun.

wheels did not pass over his head,
but must have knocked him aside
when the front wheel struck hi*
head, for otherwise tlia skull would
have been crushed aud the child in

On Friday while Mr. Arthur Woath*

into Aiken, when about three miles
from town, two large moccasin snakes
fell from out of a tree into the bng
gy. Mr. Weatberebeo baa had ex
porienoe with snakes before, having
once boen bitten by * big rattler,
and determined to capture these
nn welcome companions. One of
of tbe snakes got away, but the other
was captured alive. It is one of the
largest moccasins ever seen around
Aiken, being six feet long and fully
