Tho stuff, ho says, was stored in a
warehouse belonging to b. Arthur
O'Neill, chairman ol' tho Charleston
county board of control. Mr
O'Neill has an oftlcc in the front
part of t he building.. In fact there
was nothing but a* plank partition
between tho wn rehouse where t.ho
liquor was stored and Mr. O'Neill's
ofiioe. The litter's dc^k was within
three feet of the liquor, and Hate
man says that the odor of the boozo
couhl have penetrated that partition,
luec.cd, people passing on the street,
could see at least two eases of liquor
in the store room, exposed public
enzo. (It wns published at, the time
that Mr O'Neill was out of the city
nuil had been for several days before
tho raid.)
During Bateman'4! stay, he was
wired by Mr. W. W. Harris, chief
cle'k of the constabulary department .
to raid the Charleston hotel and oth.
or suspected places. Batoman says
that Howie received the telegram
and opened it, ar.d liateman did not
got the instructions until seven
hours later. He intimated yesterday
that, game was not easy to bair aftei
t.hat time, for before lie could ge t
aroundwhe newspapers had gotten
information of his instructions.

Thousands over the State will not

I heard Rev. \V. A. (Jrepg, the

the summer.
