Why Sol Cnindeiif
On day be/ore yesterday a ileal in
real estate wan made in this city that
means much, if present indications
\ count for anything, to our entire
V county, and especially to lliitj cit\
and to tho eastern portion of tin
county. Messrs. (loo. W >1.
K. Henry, l'\ II Barber, J. I?. Agurs,
I and T. (1 Patrick sold t licir ( !ata\vba
Falls property to Mr .James Pa
vis, of Winnsboro, and J i i ^ us'tociates
for the neat Hum of l,ooo. Mr
?f no. J. Strinjffcllow also sold his
, cue-third interest in a tract in the
AniDO community to the name parties
for $10,000, This given .Mr. J'avi :
and liia associates all Uu> property
needed for the development of the
wonderful power of tho Catawba
Falls, which has m> long remained
idle, and we feel sure no time will l>o
lost by these hustling gentlemen in
getting tho thing under way.
We urn not going 1? speculate an
to what the outcome of all this will
lie, but we want to Ray to the people
of this city and county that for t hem
tho present is bright and tho future
full of possibilities \ and we eonfi
dontly expect to see in a very short
t'line several new mills and other
manufacturing plants built in this
county and operated by Catawba
Falls power, and also a first -class
railroad running from Chester to
somewhere via tho Catawba Falls. ?

How To Hid n Town of Mosqui
toes.
The mayor of Winchester, Ya,,
lis b really delivered his town from
mosquitoes, and his success has
naturally attracted wide attention.
Winchester? it is noted, was in
fosted with the insect, and life In
tho town during the suinmer had
become really intolerable on that
account. Nets and barn afforded
only partial protection, and addi
tions! uiacoiu fort. Mayor lJarton
organized a fierce and set about the
task of lighting the peels with in
telligence and vigor, iu the general
* interest. Learning that the larvae
wore deposited in stagnant or still
water only, his agents poured ker
osene oil ? an ounce to every fifteen
square feet of surface ? into every
pond, pool puddle and sink that
could lie found. The e fleet was
"magieal." The town is fiee from
mosquitoes and the people are
sleeping without nets."
In an interview printed in ihel
New York Sun Mayor Itarlon N!.y*
in part: "t'p to iliin time this
summer the insect has hardlv be on |
seen, and it is contidenlly expect- I
ed that a continued application ol ,'
tho prevention upplicd will forever
rid us (?f it. The first experiment*
were carefully watched. In one in
stance a gentleman stood by a lain
barrel watch iu hand.' In five min
utes seventy- live mosquitoes (fe
males) arrived, bent on laying their
eggs. Of this number sevenlv
two died as soon as they touched
tho oil. There can be no doubt of j
the success of the plan." ? News A

A meeting of tho newspaper men

composed of the owners and pub
