It is no exag geration to say that this liarb-wlro telephone system is cjulte as satisfac tory as the copper circuit of tHp Dell. Ordinary phones are /With no s-pecial strength of battery and ther* is very little troublo with the lines. In constructing the -line Mr. Alley used the top strand of the barb-wlro fence of the Big Four railway, mak ing the connections with the offlces of his subscribers with ordinary tele phone wire. In some-Instances where the posts had rotted it was necessary to paint the wire and posts with rub ber paint to Insulate the wire. The whole line of fifteen miles was built at a cost of about flOO, and the outfit for each house, consisting of receiver, transmitter/battery, call, etc., costs not dver $10. The snake's tail was colled about a small oak stump and as the skunk con tinued its rounds the snake darted its head repeatedly at its enemy. Then, quick as lightning, tie skunk sprang upon the snake and fastened its teeth in the snake's neck, in an instant the snake had two coils around the body of the skunk.
