Death of Mr. Harry 0. Gerald.
Possibly one of the saddost deat hs j

sentiment, a great desire <o live for
those who loved him, and moat ex

much promise and so much to live

can not solve, but wo aro willing t"i
tYust God and to submit to His will.'
Mr. Gerald had consumption and all
that g)edical skill and tender nnrg /
ing could do oojj'd not arrest the fy*
tal disease. How faithfully his IpV
ed ones waited on hitnl and how
heaftrending when they woulc^/ see
in at their efforts were of no ayjjil.
Yet while there is so much of sad*
ness ia his death there is also preat
joy, for his loved ones havo the com
forting assurance of hi/? readiness
for the great change. His last ut
terances were assurance tlmt he was
ready and willing to gp. IJe was a
member of the Methodist Dhurch,
from which p'neo hie funeral was
held conducted by Hevs. W. M. Dun

Rev. Monroo Boykin'a Resignation
? Speech.
Rov. Monroo Boy kin who for over
thirty year* has beon tho zealous
pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church,
colored, of Camden, resigned the pas
torate of said Church on last Sunday
morning. The Church, however
would not accept his entire separa
t.ion from them, and retained him as
honorary pastor,, leaving it entirely
with him to select his sneewor as
active pastor. Rev. Monroe Boykin j
is leld in the highest esteem by the
?'11 tire community, and knowing that
his resignation speech will bo read
with interest by all we give it in full
below He said ;
j To the officers and members of Mt
l Moriah Baptist Church :
Dear Brethren:
For the pft9t thirty odd years J
have served you under the direction
of God as pastor. During which
time I liavo tried to render you con
seiontious and faithful service. Api
a result of which ray labor in the
l.<ord has been abundantly blessed
Beginning with you in early man-!
hood and remaining oontiuOusly un
til I um old and ft ray headed has en
deared me to >ou with such a tic of
love that naught but death can sever,
ljut to remain longer as your pnufor,
<M?eharij:ng t ho duties which that <?f
due involves upon me, I am unable
physically to do so. I am resolved
therefore, after a prayerful consider
ation of my conditiou ?nd of your
needs, to offer my re&igr.ation ao
wiur pastor, praying that it may be
for your bofct interest to accept tho
naiiio in kindness and love.
In severing ray connection with
you as pastor, I am made to reflect
over your pnst, labors and achieve
ments and it isr gratifying to ' notsk
that tho little number wtjirted out
with us thirty odd years, ago acted
as the leaver^ which thfe woman hid
in three measures of >neal. While

noto that our membership has^rowu

also interesting ami encouraging to
note that our ehn/ch has boon instru
mental in f;he saTVation of thousands
of souls, so that if the part of pur
members which has been transferred
to the church triumphant were w th

Your spirit ual progress has been*
and i* on the whole a soqr<?o of much
joy apd comfort to tpo Though
there have been times in your hUto

ter ant| destroy H,e fold, yet your
f?-rrmey of spirit and loyalty to the
