A most pleasant meeting of the
Woman's Missionary Society wax
held in the lecture loom of tim liap
tist Church last Tuesday evening.
The programme as carried out con
sisted of recitalions by fourteen
young people, reading, music and

Killing and Fire at Westville.
On Saturday, the 2nd inst., on

ful murder." After tho shooting

cape and has not yet b'icn arrested.

four room house, lute -hen and dairy
belonging to Mr. .1. C. Hilton was
burned. The house had been oo
cupied by a negro preacher who
had just moved out, the fire oe
ourring in less than 30 minutes af

Big Fire at Heath Spring.
About 1 -o'clock Sunday morning
fire broke out at tho depot at. Heath
Spring which totally destroyed the
. depot, neveral box cars, fnlly\ throe
hundreds bales of cotton, cotton. seed
warehouse and a quantity of cord
wood and what was worse than all
burned up an unknown man, who, it
was supposed, was asleep in ono of
the empty box cars on the side track.
The bulk of the cotton was fully c^v
efed by insurance but several farm
ers, who had ci.tton in the lot, have
