Dr. Rutledge Spends a Day With" The
Chain Gang:
A fine of $20 or HO days on the
coupty chain gang was imposed by
iUe Town Council of Kershaw on
Dr. J. E. Kutledge, Dentist, for
practicing his profession in the
town of Kershaw without paying
* the license tax imposed by an or
dinance of the town. Tho Doctor
'chose to go to the chain gang in
order, as we are informed, to lav
e the grounds for an action to test
' the authority of the Town Counoil
of Kershaw to pass and enforce a
license tax ordinance. He was ta
ten to the gang on Tuesday and
remained there until Wednesday
when he paid the flnc and was dis
charged. Ills friends tried to per
suade hijjp to pay the line in the
first instanco but he persisted in
going to the gang for / the reason
