entire voto of Kershaw County
again, but why should he not have
opposition? I know .it would do

oppose him on the "battlefield"
wheu the campaign opens. There
fore we would suggest the name of

/The County convention met at the
Court House on last Monday. The
meeting was called to order b}' Mr
W. D. Trantham County Chairman,
and Messrs. W. L McDowell and C.
W. Birchmoro were elected secre
taries.

The convention then proceeded
to elect a Chairman Mr. Tran
tham was nominated for reflection,
but, he staled that b* bad held the
position six years, and that be did
not believe in one holding an tflice
for a lifetime, tliat. wind honor or
good theio was in the office should

appreciating to the fullest th? eon

stowed upon him by the good pco
pie of^Kershaw county, ho would not
stand for re election, but preferred
to take hi* place among the privates.
Judge K. W. Suttou in a neat speech
then nominated Mr. T. J Kirkland
for the position and heN was unani
mously elected.
The turning over of the office by
~ toy Mr. Trantham and tho accept
ance by Mr. Kirkland was very
gracefully done. Mr. Trantham said
tho convention had made no mistake
in electing Mr. Kirkland. In turn
Mr. Kirkland sabfthat bis predeces*
eor, Mr. Trantham, was a man for!
whom he had the highest regard,
<hat he had been associated^ with
him under various circumstances
and ho recognized in him a man of
no ordinary political sagacity.

Chairman.
