at the Stato farm was accidentally
al (?t by My. McClonon, a guard.
I lie convicts had just been looked
up for tho night, and Mr. McClonon
waa unloading his rillo vvhon it waft
in some way discharged. Tho ball
struck tho irdn bars and split, one
of tho piccoa of the ball striking the
convict ir tho hoad. The guard ac
companied by Capt Cooley, oamo to
Camden on Tuesday for tho purpose
of surrendering to Sheriff Williams
but tho negro not boing doad it was
decided to await developments. At
last account tho unfoftunalo man
waa not doad but was in a vory pre
carious condition.

Holder, died on tli6 8th Inst. at her
home near the Haile Gold Mine.

yesterday (Sunday.)
Well Mr. Kdltor, as "Usne" has
given it to tho Kershaw Krr. and
its editor, and Kershaw at larg??, I
will say a few words to him. ' His
article is vidioulous; it has thrown
a dark damper over Kershaw and
our citizens. We think that our
little "dude" (us ho is styled) has
rather gotten into deep water and
we scarcely seo any chance for his
escape. Wu..soe no motive whatev
er for mir^dude" being s.> rash on
the eiiUor of the Era, and we hope
that lie will soon awake to see the
fblly of his rashness before its loo
late. We would advise the Board
of Health to keep a close eye on
this "dudo" for fcaf his brain will
get so hot that theje will itaan ex
plosion and his little bit of brains
will be scattered to parts unknown.

house for a few days and if that
don't suffice to cool bim down we
