pending in tho New York legislature
to proveht misrepresentation in ad
vertisements. Tho bill is bolpg
pressed by tho very best class of
merchants. They claim that un
scrupulous and lying advertisers
placo them at a great disadvantage
and pray that tl'O law may afford
them protection. While doolaring
their own f.iith in Advertising, they
insist that they should not bo at the
mercy of others who have no re.?pect
for facts.
In the end, and as a general rule,
?the legitimate and truthful adverti-1*
or will crowd out the fakirs but what
stronger testimonial could be given
to I ho value of advertising in itself

that tlio rentiers of your valuable
paper would be glad to hoar about
one of the best aud most prosper
ous schools in the Stale, I will tell
them same things about the South
Carolina Co-Kducational Institute,
which is located at Williston
Barnwell County, S. -C. Tbit?
school had its beginning , about
seven years ago. The p'an, iden,
and ho forth was deviled by F. N.
K. Bailey the present Prosident. At
that time there were no High
Schools or Academies in tl.ie State,
between Columbia aritf Charleston
and very few such schools in the
State. The school has been a suc
cess from tho very beginning.
Prof. Buily has spent thousands of
dollars in putting up'buildings, ad
vertising tiie sehool, <fco. The state
bas been thoroughly canvassed
from the mountains to the sen.
The average attendance for the
paSt five years has been two hun
dred and twenty-five students.
Nearly every county in the state
being represented and quite a num
ber of students coming from On.
A large number of graduates have
been sent out and nearly every one
lias a good paying position. One
fact worthy of notice is that the S.
C. C. I. students when competing
for scholai ships to higher colleges
nearly always come out tn the lead.
Notwithstanding the loss of $10,
000 worth of property by flies the
school is today in better condition
then ever before and tho patronage
is larger. Prof. Bailey not only
knows how to bring ?students in,
but ho also knows what to do (or
them, after they- get here. The
{xouv|o of study is thoroughly
^taught and the students well cared
for. ijTwd separate halls are run
? for the yarding atodsnts, o?? - for

young ladies. These halls are ele
gantly fitted np and the students
are furnished with every comfort

ncsR College of that city has had
to telegraph fivo times in ten clays
to other cities to secure young
men to accept desirable positions,

It further states that, although
the College has several hundred
pupils each year, it had not o sin
gle graduate idle. This empha
sizes the fact tli at young men of
good business education are al
ways in demand; and if any of our
young friends write the Ga. Bus.
College, at Maoon, Ga., we know

which will enable them to attend
as cheaply as to remain at home.
William J. Bryan in Columbia.
William Jennings Bryan was in
