will, we think, obviate any conflict be
tween tho work of the Commission and
tho tax department, and provide for a
complete balancing of tho tax accounts,
which is now prevented by the require
ment that the oxoeutionH bo hold in the
Treasurer's ofllce, which prevents his
being receipted in full for tho amount
charged to him by tho Auditor.
Third, While wo realize that the
( lommission's agents havo restored, and
continue to roHtoro, largo quantities of
property to tho lax hooka, and that it
is >? Hourco of income hereafter; we still
think the expense in too liigh in propor
tion to receipts, ami hopj>. that hoiiio
way may he. deviled wh?i4|^' tho Com
mission may lessen tho expense. Wo
think that if tho law way ao amended
that the commission could have a re
sponsible sub-agent in each county,"
who would bo paid by a certain per
| cent, of tho funds collected front

hooks it might- be possible to lessen
the expense of tho Commission 'a opera
tions.
Wo also think that- expenses could ho
greatly reduced by reducing the fees of
sheriffs, and newspapers, in making

tho State. This could bo regulated by

ing to do, and wo make no report of the
